Tooth Extractions Near You

Extracting one or multiple teeth can feel intimidating, but the procedure is very safe and can be quick. Some tooth extraction procedures are more invasive than others. Extractions happen for several reasons: if your tooth cannot grow properly and erupt from the gums, if periodontal disease has affected it, or if you are suffering from pain.

Apple’s Dental Central offers tooth extractions in Ottawa. We want to help you keep smiling and get rid of any pain!

What Can I Expect?

Simple Extraction

Many dentists recommend a tooth extraction near you if you are in a lot of pain. You might have pain due to a few different oral health issues, some of which include advanced periodontal disease, chronic tooth sensitivity, or overcrowded teeth. In many of these situations, dentists often recommend a simple extraction.

A simple extraction means that you don’t need major surgery to remove the tooth. Before pulling the tooth, your dentist will give you a local anaesthetic injection. After your tooth is pulled, the dentist will put a gauze pad into the socket to help stop bleeding. After that, your dentist may prescribe antibiotics or painkillers to help ease your recovery at home.

Impacted Tooth

Teeth that can’t erupt from your gums properly are “impacted teeth” and require surgical removal. Wisdom teeth removal is very common. Our clinic offers tooth extractions in Ottawa, so contact us if your wisdom teeth are causing you pain.

Not everyone has to get their wisdom teeth removed. However, if your mouth does not have room for them, your dentist will recommend a tooth extraction to avoid damaging neighbouring teeth. You have options with your surgery that you can talk to your dentist about. Often, you can choose between local anaesthesia (numbs your mouth) or general anaesthesia (lose complete consciousness).

Your oral surgeon will discuss with you how they will handle the procedure. They will ensure you feel comfortable and answer any questions or concerns that you may have.

Once the removal is complete, your wound is typically closed with stitches, and the socket is packed with gauze. Swelling and soreness are very common, so you will get a prescription for painkillers.

Other uncommon aftereffects include the following:

  • Dry socket (exposure of bone if a blood clot does not form)
  • Infection
  • Damage to nearby teeth

If you are concerned about these side effects, talk to your oral surgeon or dentist. But don’t worry, the procedures are safe!
